When the insurance company’s offer doesn’t add up.
When someone gets an insurance offer that feels too low, they usually know it. The challenge is proving what their vehicle was actually worth.
We do the market research, give them a free second opinion, and explain whether there’s enough support to challenge the valuation. You make the introduction. We handle the rest.

What goes into our free second opinion?
We research the vehicle’s market value using multiple sources before recommending whether an appraisal is worth pursuing.
- Comparable Market Listings
We search major automotive marketplaces like Cars.com, Autotrader, CarGurus & more for comparable vehicles currently on the market.
- Historical Sales Data
We research past sales through platforms like Bring a Trailer, Cars & Bids, Classic.com & more, when appropriate.
- Private-Party Market Research
We examine privately listed vehicles on marketplaces like Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist & more, when appropriate.
- Professional Dealer Inventory Research
We search dealership inventories nationwide using professional MarketCheck data.
- Factory Equipment Verification
We pull build sheets when available to identify factory options, packages, and equipment.
- Industry Valuation Cross-Checks
We compare our findings against Kelley Blue Book, J.D. Power, Black Book & Manheim.
- Independent Value Assessment
We provide an estimated market value range and an honest recommendation on whether or not we believe challenging the insurer’s offer makes financial sense.
I was fighting insurance valuations long before I became an appraiser.
Before I ever started this company, I fought two total loss valuations on my own vehicles. First, after my 1992 Toyota Pickup was totaled in a rollover. Years later, after my 1998 Dodge Ram Cummins was destroyed in an engine fire.
I knew what my vehicles were worth. Getting the insurance companies to recognize that value was another matter.
Those experiences are why I started Fair Auto Appraisals. Today I research vehicle values, prepare detailed reports, and negotiate with insurance company appraisers. But if the evidence doesn’t support a meaningful increase, I’ll tell someone not to spend their money on an appraisal.
I’d rather give someone a straight answer than sell them a service they don’t need.
Want to see the research behind our appraisals?
In one actual dispute, the opposing appraiser submitted a two-page template. We submitted a 64-page report backed by comparable vehicles, adjustments, and supporting documents.
See the actual appraisal comparisonQuestions? Fair enough.
Can individuals join, or is this just for businesses?
Both. The program is designed for businesses and individuals who know people dealing with total loss insurance offers. Any referral compensation is subject to eligibility and applicable law.
What does it cost to join?
Nothing. There are no membership fees, exclusivity requirements, or minimum referral quotas.
Will every person I refer need to buy an appraisal?
No. The second opinion is free. If the available evidence doesn’t justify a paid appraisal, we’ll tell them.
How do referral bonuses work?
Qualifying referrals may earn a bonus after a completed paid appraisal, where permitted. Eligibility and payment terms are outlined in the partner program.
